We took an adventure back up to Patoka Lake over the weekend, for a nice little getaway. Things have just been so busy around home (and they are always getting busier). So...we decided in between Faith and Bryce's birthdays that we had better make time for a little camping. Faith had a ballgame on Saturday, but we skipped it. We decided a little rest, relaxation, and family time was more important.
We knew it was going to be a hot weekend, but we decided since our new camper has air conditioning that life would be good.
We spent the weekend riding bikes, the kids road their scooters, we walked down to the lake numerous times, and just enjoyed spending lots of time together.
We got there about 6:00 pm on Friday night. We got the camper backed in (finally---I was having directing Karl into the spot this time, which is nothing unusual really). The camper was in a little bit sideways, but we finally said that it was good enough. We got camp set up a little bit, but the kids were begging to go to the lake, so we finally gave in.
We slept in a little bit on Saturday morning. The kids weren't up until about 7:30, so that is late for them. We woke up and were lazy for a while a while. We got up and got breakfast going and we actually had the food done by about 9:30 (which is early, since usually it is almost time for lunch by the time it finally gets done...Don't know why, but that is how it works. So...after breakfast the kids were ready to head back down to the lake. They were ready for a little rock throwing and just playing on the big rocks down by the lake.
It was really hot down by the lake, so after we stayed down there forever, we finally came back up for a quick lunch. Karl and I decided we weren't really hungry but the kids didn't eat much for breakfast, so we gave them a turkey sandwich (minus the bread of course). We ate and then decided it was time to go swimming. We all got our swimsuits on (Might I add that my swimsuit isn't going to fit too long. My ever expanding belly is starting to cause some issues. I wore my suit, but put clothes on over it to leave on in the lake). We then drove over to the beach area for some cooling off in the lake. The water was a little cold, but the kids got used to it quickly. They splashed and played around for a while and then it started raining. It wasn't raining hard, so we just stayed. After starting and stopping sprinkling for a while it then decided to come a downpour. So...we the sound of thunder in the distance we decided we had better be smart and head back to camp.
By the time we got back to our campsite the rain had stopped and it had never actually rained at the campground itself, just over at the beach area. After we were back for a little bit though it did start to sprinkle. The kids thought it was great though, because they had come equipped (thanks to mom!) with all their raingear. So Faith and Bryce both preceeded putting on their raincoats, rainboots, and getting out their umbrellas. The got ready, then the sprinkles stopped. It sprinkled a little bit more off and on, but they finally decided that rain gear was not going to be necessary.
It was about time to begin dinner, so the kids just played around the campsite until dinner time. Then after dinner they decided that they needed to go fishing. So...back down the trail to the lake we went. Faith had several bites, but she just going catch anything.
Sunday came and went quickly of course. We got up and Karl took Faith down to go fishing while it wasn't so hot. Then after no luck there we came back up for a quick breakfast. After breakfast it was time to start tearing down camp, which always seems to take forever (not as long as it used to in the pop-up camper though).
After we had most of camp taken down we decided to go for a quick bike ride. So we rode our bikes up to the playground and let the kids play for a few minutes. We then hooked the camper up to the truck, loaded up in the truck, and away we went. We did decide to stop by the campstore and get some ice cream.
We stopped by the dump station on the way out. Bet you didn't know that beauty can even be found while dumping out yucky stuff out of your camper. No one was around when we started dumping our sewage, so we got out our camera. Well...it wasn't long and people showed up. By the time we finally got our hoses unhooked and everyone loaded back up in the truck, there was a long line of people waiting. We didn't hold them up too much, but they did rush our picture taking. Oh well....at least we got a few pictures!
