A Camping Weekend

We had not been able to go camping since July. We were all getting camping fever!! A nice weekend was predicted, so we decided to pack things up and head into the woods. We just spent the weekend at Lincoln State Park. We had to drive back home on Saturday, so that Faith could go to her soccer game.
Karl had Friday off, so we went up about noon and set the camper up, while Faith was in school. We then headed back to pick her up from school and then went back to the campground. It was a lot of driving back and forth, but it was worth it.

It was Cole's FIRST camping trip! He even got to ride in the jogging stroller around the campground. The stroller is so big and Cole literally looked like a baby doll sitting in it.

Faith found a good climbing tree on our campsite. We found her climbing it, standing in it, and falling out of it several times.

On Saturday morning Faith found a praying mantis on her bicycle. She usually loves bugs and isn't afraid of them, but she wouldn't hold this praying mantis (even hold the stick that Daddy put it on). She did think that it was neat though.

The kids had fun riding their scooters as well. You never knew how you would find them riding them. Sometimes they were standing, sometimes sitting, sometimes both on one scooter, or sometimes trading scooters. They had lots of fun!

There was also time for a little fishing. Fishing at Lincoln is usually a waste of time (I don't think we have ever caught a fish there). Bryce thought that he had to continue fishing until he had caught a fish. We finally persuaded him to go back to the campsite, because we just couldn't catch any fish. It was a rather windy day too, so that didn't help.

Cole layed out under the awning on a blanket some. He liked just looking up at the trees. He also liked having his swing outside. He likes it outside, just like the other 2 kids (which is good, since we spend a lot of time outdoors).

While we were down at the lake Friday night we saw a snake in the water. The picture above is of that snake. It looks like it is grass, but it is really in weeds in the water. We are assuming it was a water snake. On Saturday a DNR man came around carrying a water snake (which looked like what we had seen the night before). The kids took a break from dinner to see the snake and touch it. Bryce wasn't real sure about the snake, but Faith thought it was cool and touched it.

The kids played hide-n-seek too. Bryce was good at covering his eyes and counting to 10. Faith was good at finding hiding places where Bryce would never look (like underneath Daddy's truck).

On Sunday we finally went for a short hike (we had been telling Bryce we would go since we had gotten there). Bryce was good at running ahead of us and then falling down. We made it though.

Faith found an area over by the lake that had tons of acorns. She decided to start collecting them (she is good at filling her pockets with anything and everything). I always end up with a collection in my dryer when we get home. Daddy told Faith to collect some acorns and we would plant some at home and see if we could grow a tree from them at home. She was excited about the possibility of a tree growing from one of these acorn.
The pine needles were really falling from the trees. At times at the campsite it literally looked like it was raining pine needles. Bryce had never really seem or remembered pine needles. We were telling him what they were and then he was calling them "pineapples". So, if you are in the woods this season, watch out for those falling pineapples.
We got home from camping about 2:30 on Sunday. We had a nice time and weren't ready to come home (never are). We do have a couple of more camping trips coming up though, so that made coming home a little bit easier.
