Faith had been begging to get her ears pierced. I didn't want to rush into such a big decision. I wanted her to be old enough to take care of them and don't mess with them. I finally decided that 6 years old would be a good age. We hadn't told her that we were taking her to get them done today (it was a surprise!), but I had talked to her randomly about how getting her ears pierced might hurt.
So...we gave her a new outfit and a letter saying she was a big girl and we were taking her to get her ears pierced. She was so excited.
We got to Claire's on the mall and Faith was still being very brave. She picked out the earrings that she wanted (little pink flowers) and climbed up in the chair to get ready.
The lady marked her ears with a marker and called the other lady working in the store to come do one of Faith's ears. We ended up going to Claire's, because I had to have a place that could do both ears at one time, because I was afraid Faith would chicken out after the first ear. I once again warned Faith that it would make a noise when they pierced her ears and it would hurt for a minute. She sat there very bravely and then they pierced her ears. She didn't cry, until it was over. She heard the pop and then she said, "Ohhhh...that hurt".
She cried for a minute and wanted Daddy to carry her. We made it outside to the van though and she was okay then.
I later asked Faith if it hurt. She said, "YES". I said, "Mommy told you it might hurt for a minute." Faith's response was, "Yes, but you didn't tell me it was going to hurt real bad."
